Scholarships
Providing scholarships for local high school students has been a significant area of focus for the Diamond Woman’s Club since its inception in 1963. We are currently concentrating our efforts to student populations that are generally underrepresented in academic scholarship programs. Awards are given to students who entering community colleges and/or certificate programs. The number and amount of scholarship awards is dependent upon our fundraising success for the year.
Scholarship Committee members reach out to and work with staff at Diamond Bar High School and Diamond Ranch High School to assist students with scholarship applications. In April, the Scholarship Committee selects scholarship winners who are honored at a luncheon in May. Committee members attend high school award events to personally give students our Club award.
Education First: Read Across America

Read Across America Week begins on the birthday of the beloved author, Dr. Seuss. The entire month of March, in fact, is dedicated to reading. The National Education Association (N.E.A.) aims to encourage reading and educate people about its benefits, especially among children and young adults. Events are organized across the nation by schools and organizations to promote the same. Diamond Bar Woman’s Club member, Raphael H. Plunkett, served as a volunteer reader for young scholars at Golden Springs Elementary School on March 2nd and 3rd. She read in the library during recess and class time, and again in the multi-purpose room during the evening “pajama party under the stars.” This was part of the Read Across America program.
Summer Project:
Military Making Spirits Bright
Our Club coordinates the work of several Clubs, a local church and Rotary Clubs to support families stationed a 29 Palms Marine Base and Camp Pendleton during the holiday season with gifts for family members. At other times during the year Club members collect and donate food, gasoline gift cards, clothing, household items, diapers, baby furniture, and baby supplies.
Making Spirits Bright Military Committee Members, Sonja Reed and Rachel Kirk attended the Armed Services YMCA 29 Palms, CA Branch Luncheon honoring service members Lance Corporal Frania Figueroa-Martinez and Sergeant Noah Simmons.
We were invited by Patrick Byrne, Executive Director of the Armed Services YMCA. MSB channels all donations to the military families at 29 Palms through their YMCA. We didn't want to show up empty handed, so delivered a carful of baby items. We were able to chat with various soldiers and they shared how grateful they were for all that the Diamond Bar Woman's Club does for them.
Our Club honors our American Veterans for National Poppy Day by conducting a Poppy Sale at a local market. The crepe paper red poppies are a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars. They are meant to remind Americans of the sacrifices made by our veterans while protecting our freedoms. Proceeds of the sale were donated to the American Legion Auxiliary Post 112 to support veterans.

Domestic Violence
In our Club efforts to support survivors of Domestic Violence, our Club, with the help of local vendors annually provides, shoes, backpacks filled with school supplies, Easter Baskets, holiday meals, holiday gifts, Mother’s Day gifts and clothing to transition houses such as the House of Ruth and Crossroads for Women. We are proud to support the Domestic Violence Action Collation. Through this organization, the Diamond Bar Woman’s Club donates and supports CHIPS for Kids and supports DVAC’s work to raise awareness of and stop domestic violence.
Casino Night
The Diamond Bar Woman’s Club signature fund raiser, Casino Night, has grown to become an occasion looked forward to by many members of our community. This event supports our scholarship program and intertwines fund raising, volunteerism, branding, membership development, relationship building and social fun. All active members participate in making Casino Night a success by gathering donations from local businesses for drawings, silent auction and live a auction, creating table decorations, selling tickets, creating gifts baskets and taking care of the logistics for a successful event.
